                                                   A Letter from the President

Dear friends and Colleagues, Brothers and Sisters in the Ethnic Press and Media:

As the year is drawing to its end I want to thank you all for the trust and support we received from all of you during the 2008.

It was a very successful year and your organization had the opportunity to promote the sector with the first ever exhibition of the Ethnic Press and Media at the Toronto City Hall. Thousand of people visited the exhibition and we received the best comments about the ethnic media and their achievements.

This year the exhibition is planned for the week June 29 to July the 4th, again at the Toronto City Hall and after we are planning to place it to the various public places in Ontario. Starting from Montreal and Ottawa and going al the way to Windsor and London. This is the reason that early in February 2009 I would notify you to submit the best copies of your publications to be displaced and also from these publication our awards committee in cooperation with Don Wanagas, Director of Mayor Miller’s communications office will select ten publications to be recognized later in 2009. At this point I want to report that our membership exited the 500 members at the end of the 2008, out of 564 of the ethnic publications in Canada. Thank you all for this great achievement. As you all know effective the first of January 2009, every member has to renew membership according to the Laws of Ontario for nonprofit corporations, in order to qualify to be in good standing.

All the members in good standing qualify to participate in the draw of a 17’ lop top computer. The draw will be probably during the educational series we are planning for the members.

During our March meeting we are going to have general elections for the renewal of the members of the board of director.

Today, I declare the nomination order for interested candidates open an I am urging all of you to advice, about your intentions, and submit your name to Dr. Bikram Lamba for consideration.

During the 2009 we are working with an educational Institution to prepare three days course for our members from all over Canada. The members will travel at the expense of the organization to Toronto, where we also would cover dormitory expenses and meals for the period. At the end of the sessions, in cooperation and together with the Institution will issue certificates of attendance for the members retrained in the Canadian Media and Press courses.

Monday, January the 12th, 2008 we are holding the first monthly meeting of the New Year. I am calling the meeting for 6:00pm at committee room N# 2, at the main Legislative Building of Ontario, Queen’s Park in Toronto. Main Speaker of the meeting is going to be Ambassador Mulroney, Deputy Minister of External Affairs Canada, Director for Afghanistan and the South Asian Affairs Desk. It is a very serious meeting, as the speaker wants to inform us about today’s policies and hear your opinion with regards to the Canadian policies in the area.

To this extend please inform my office of your intentions to attend by emailing to:

saras@nepmcc.ca

Finally, and taking this opportunity, on behalf of the members of the board, I want to extend our best and warm wishes for a healthy, happy, productive and peaceful New Year 2009.

Happy Divali, Edi Mubarakh, Happy Honikah, and Merry Christmas, to all of you.

With respect and my best wishes,

Thomas S. Saras
