Speaker
of the day was Mr. Jim McKibbin, manager communications Statistics Canada.
Clyde McNeil, the Chairman of the Council, invited him.
Mr. McKibbin
made a very detailed analysis on the upcoming national Canadian census and
he asked for the help of the members of the ethnic press and answered
every question of the members. At the end he expressed his wish for
another presentation later in the New Year.
At the
completion of the questions period the visitors left.
At this
meeting only five members of the Board of Directors: Thomas S. Saras,
Tania Nuttall, Ahmadshah Hotaki, Kenrick Bobb, Iraj Emad, and only two,
(Thomas Saras and Kenrick Bobb), from the executive, were in attendance.
As there was
no quorum the Council had unofficial discussions on a number of items of
the Agenda of the day.
When some of
the members proposed a motion and the Chair agreed to put it for a vote on
a number of items, the president refused to recognize the outcome, as the
Council was not meeting officially, every member in the room participated
without authority although two of them were not even members of the board
but visitors.
Answering
questions the president explained that the Council’s monthly meetings
are the Board of directors meetings.
However,
these meetings are open to every member as an observer.
In that
capacity he/she contribute to the discussion with the permission of the
Chair.
They have no
voting rights at the meetings of the board as well as they cannot
substitute the members of the board in the decision making process of the
administration of the organization.
At this
point the Chair declared the end of the meeting.
