Welcome Remarks by the Chair:

Mr. Thomas Saras chaired the meeting and declared the meeting open. Isa Melo moved a motion to approve the agenda. Suleiman Guven seconded it. The motion was carried

 

Minutes of the previous meeting:

Rakhee Prabhakar moved a motion to approve the minutes of the previous monthly meeting Rose Marie Sadllier seconded it.  The motion was carried.

President’s Report/Discussions:

  • Thomas Saras also reminded the members to renew their membership this year in order to enjoy the benefits and privileges of being a member of NEPMCC. He expressed disappointed that only a portion of members have renewed their membership.

  • The opening ceremony for NEPMCC pavilion at the CNE Ethnic Press Exhibition will take place Saturday August 21.

  • Motion: Dr. Tajdolati moved a motion to authorize the office of the President to spend for beverages, snacks and pastries during the reception of the opening ceremony of the CNE Ethnic Press Exhibition on August 21 at the International Pavilion. Mr. Hotaki of the Afghan Post seconded. The motion was unanimously carried.

  • President Thomas Saras encouraged all members to participate at the NEPMCC Ethnic Press Exhibition at CNE by attending the opening and closing ceremony in large numbers. There would be a reception for members following the opening ceremony at CNE. He also reminded the members to leave the best copies of their publications at the booth as the booth will be attended by thousands of visitors every day at the CNE and it is great way to reach out and spread awareness of the member publications.

  • Motion Yohan Byrde, moved a motion to authorize the office of the President to spend for flyers and banners for and other expenses for the booth of NEPMCC’s the Ethnic Press Exhibition at CNE. The motion was seconded by Patrick Long and unanimously carried.

  • President Thomas Saras mentioned that the Canada Day celebration organized for the members and their family was a great success. The event was to show the appreciation of the members of the NEPMCC towards Canada and is an expression of thanks and gratitude for the recognition of social justice and equal treatment that our communities are receiving. He mentioned this year there were representative participation from various communities. He thanked all the members who participated in the event.

  • President Thomas Saras suggested that on the conclusion of the season of the Ethnic Press Exhibition, on September 4, by tradition the last 32 years of our participation celebrated as a “Multicultural Day” at the Ex, and the president suggested that this tradition be respected. There was a motion on the floor by Srimal Abewardene, seconded by Pooyan Tabatabaei, towards this which was unanimously carried. CNE passes were distributed to the members during the meeting. In addition members encouraged to apply individually for passes for their staff members from the link for media at CNE’s press office. According to Mr. Saras this was a special treatment from the Press Office to the members of the NEPMCC, in order to offer them equal treatment with the mainstream media to cover the events at the CNE. Also any member wanted could carry an advertisement of the CNE and will receive tickets for the amount of the advertisement as the office of the CNE had no budget for advertisement. At the same time, members not presents at the meeting to receive entrance tickets, should use their own media passes of the NEPMCC to enter the fair.

  • Thomas Saras mentioned and reminded the members that nomination for this year’s annual award and will close on July 30 2016. He emphasized that no nominations would be accepted after the deadline.

 

 

New Business:

Rakhee Prabhakar suggested that the members of NEPMCC should organize a trip outside the City within the Province of Ontario. Many members participated in the discussion and showed their interest the idea of an organized tour to know more about the Province of Ontario in a way the readership can benefit from the information about the richness of beautiful landscapes and historical monuments that the Province of Ontario carries.

 

Adjournment: John Saras moved a motion to adjourn the meeting and Marek Goldyn seconded it. The motion was carried. The Chair, President Thomas Saras adjourned the meeting at 9 pm. The next monthly meeting would take place on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Committee room N# 2, second floor, City Hall.
