Welcome Remarks by the Chair:

Mr. Thomas Saras chaired the meeting and declared the meeting open. Sandeep Prabhakar moved a motion to approve the agenda. Jonathan Annobil seconded it. The motion was carried

Minutes of the previous meeting:

Sandeep Prabhaker moved a motion to approve the minutes of the previous monthly meeting Rosemary Sadllier seconded it.The motion was carried.

President’s Report/Discussions:

  • Thomas Saras also reminded the members to renew their membership this year in order to enjoy the benefits and privileges of being a member of NEPMCC. He expressed disappointed that only a portion of members have renewed their membership.

  • President Thomas Saras mentioned that the list of the award winners this year is final after review by the awards committee headed by Dr. Tajdolati.

  • President Thomas Saras informed the members that the first phase of the digital publishing platform will begin from January 2017. He mentioned that the company responsible for the implementation of the Digital Publishing Platform would update 5 websites every months and as a result 60 websites can be migrated every year to the Digital Publishing Platform.

  • President Thomas Saras would send a link of Canada Magazine Fund. In the next meeting President would organize a workshop on the guidelines on applying for the fund.

  • President Thomas Saras expressed disappointment that very few members show up for events and hence wanted commitment from members if they are interested in continuing with the Annual Dinner, he suggested that either 26 publications block 10 tickets each or 52 black 6 tickets each in order to have a worthy Gala Dinner with politicians.

  • Motion: Rakhee Prabhakar suggested that members interested in attending the Annual Dinner should confirm with the office of the President at the earliest so that tickets can be distributed in the next meeting on November 14. The motion was unanimously carried.

    Presentation by Shen Yun

    Danielle Zhu on behalf of Shen Yun made a video and audio presentation and encouraged everyone to attend the concerts.

    Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premiere classical Chinese dance and Music Company. Shen Yun was established in New York in 2006 by elite Chinese artists. They came together with shared passion and vision to revive the lost world of traditional Chinese arts and culture and share it with everyone. The name Shen Yun means the beauty of the diving beings dancing and that is what the audience experiences.
    Many members asked questions and expressed interest after an amazing presentation of visual arts of Shen Yun by Danielle Zhu.

    Presentation by Doctors Without Borders by Carol Devine, Claudia Blume and Idriss Lomba

    Maria Voutsinas introduced the delegation of Doctors Without Borders to the council.
    The delegation made a brief presentation on the mission and goals of the organization.
    Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is the world's leading independent international medical relief organization, implementing and managing medical projects in close to 70 countries worldwide and with national offices in 21 countries.
    The medical action that they take comes in multiple forms:

    • Emergency healthcare, including surgery
    • Mass vaccination campaigns
    • Water and sanitation
    • Therapeutic and supplementary nutrition
    • Distribution of medicines and medical supplies
    • Training and health education
    • Organization or rehabilitation of health facilities
    • Medical assistance within existing health facilities

    Dr. Tajdolati, Mareck Goodyn, Rosemay Saddlier, Suleiman Guven, Rakhee Prabhakar, Ahmed Shah Hotaki and others asked questions on a wide variety of questions following the presentation.

    New Members

    Lui Queano - Radio Migrante 105.5 FM
    Pet Cleto - Radio Migrante and The Philippine Reporter.
    President Thomas Saras welcomed them and other new members to the council and hoped that they would be active participants in the organization.

    Adjournment: John Saras moved a motion to adjourn the meeting and Jonathan Annobil seconded it. The motion was carried. The Chair, President Thomas Saras adjourned the meeting at 9 pm. The next monthly meeting would take place on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Committee room N# 4, second floor, Toronto City Hall.
