PRESS RELEASE

On Saturday, October 11, 2003, the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada held its first conference sponsored by the Ministry of Canadian Heritage.

The conference was organized and carried out very successfully. Both Ministry officials and Ethnic Press delegates from all over the country participated in the round-table discussions and added to its success with their input.  A number of issues pertaining to the role and needs of the Ethnic Press were introduced and discussed.  An appeal was also made to the Government for more inclusive policies.

In addition to the positive step towards better understanding of the role of the Ethnic Press in Canada by the government and our mainstream counterparts, the outcome of this conference - and hopefully all future conferences - will assist in better understanding the needs and valid appeals of half the population of this wonderful and unique multicultural country.
