City of Edmonton action on immigration

 Dear Mayor Mandel,
I am writing on behalf of the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada in Edmonton to support your special initiative on immigration which will be considered and voted by City Council on November 15th.
I urge you and city council to move forward with a realistic plan to attract more immigrants in Edmonton.
In this regard, members of NEPMCC in Edmonton are readily to support your initiative.
Since most newcomers to Edmonton, including immigrants and refugees are presently reading newspapers and periodicals in their first languages, in order for us to create an effective link between city hall and the newcomer community, may I suggest that the city will send information on council 's decisions and departments' activities to us so that your
activities be known and be implemented.
However, it is noted that lately since the time you became our mayor most of the ethno-cultural media in Edmonton did not receive many advertising purchase orders from Corporate Communications, as it was a normal practice in the past. On this occasion, I would like to take the liberty to bring to your attention this issues for your kind consideration.
Last but not least, on behalf of NEPMCC may I wish you and City Council all the very best to serve Edmontonians in your term as the Mayor of the City of Edmonton.
 Regards,
 THANH NGUYEN

On Nov. 15 City Council will be voting on a recommendation to move forward
with a plan to support the attraction and retention of more immigrants in  Edmonton. EMCN has sent the attached letter encouraging all members of City Council to support the motion. If any of you are involved with an organization that might like to also express its support, the more councilors know there is wide support for this direction the better, and letter to them deliver that message. The fax numbers for the mayor and councilors is on the first of the blue pages at the beginning of the phone book and letters should be there no later than Monday morning since this will come to the meeting on Tuesday at 1:30 PM. If you want a copy of the actual motion and/or a copy of the Prairie Centre summary of recommendations to help develop your letter just let me know. Thanks for any help you
