QUESTION THE ELECTED LEADERS ON BETRAYAL:

 BLUNDERS ALWAYS PROVE COSTLY

 BY JAVED ZAHEER,

TORONTO: Without realizing the serious consequences of removing Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf from power at such crucial time when the very existence of Pakistan is in real danger, the people, tricked by their trusted politicians, started playing in the hands of Powers with vested interests in the South Asia region.  They started dancing on the tune of Go Musharraf Go. Now the change is proving very costly and deadly.

People were happy that the democratic set up and the political leadership would bring them real progress and happiness. Very soon their hopes were shattered as the situation started turning from bad to worse. Now they are badly disappointed and frustrated and cursing their luck and praying for their and Pakistan’s safety. ...

Is Media Power Real?

By Dr. Haider Mehdi

Media pundits convinced of the need for social justice in a democratic society strongly assert that “the mass media and individual journalists need to become the advocates for the politically homeless.” It is a powerful role that is assigned to the media by many prominent social and political critics. In fact, this concept, in no uncertain terms, argues that the media’s role in a democracy is essentially political...

CHANGE IN APPROACH, POLICY: A GOOD SIGN FOR ALL

BY JAVED ZAHEER, FREE EXPRESSION AWARD WINNER

TORONTO:  With the change in Liberal’s leadership from Stephane Dione to Michael Ignatief, a positive change in approach and policy has been witnessed and that is of `Listening’ and `Exchanges’ with all. This will prove extremely helpful and productive in making the party powerful and in regaining the trust and confidence of the people. Stephane Dione must be a very good person and a policymaker but failed to lead the Liberal party and impress the people.

The call for change in leadership, approach and policies remained my focus in most of the editorials, exclusive features and general coverage and Thanks God the message has touched the mind cord, been understood and adopted as a policy by the Liberal. Yes Michael Ignatief, this is what the Canadians want. If understood then it should be maintained as well instead of making it a victim of political somersault and juggling....
